The Photographer - David Stork (Dubuque, IA)

My love of photography initially started after I graduated from high school and received my first 35mm camera…a brand new Canon AV-1 SLR camera. I played with it throughout college and even took a few photography courses to learn the basics of lighting, composition, etc. Then in the mid-80’s, photography took a back seat, as raising a family and my career came first. Consequently, my pictures comprised mostly of my kids.

In 2003, I decided to get serious about photography again: specifically nature and wildlife photography. Capturing it on camera was one way that I could save my memories and share them with others. That’s when I purchased my first advanced digital SLR camera and renewed my love of photography. From beautiful sunsets, to elusive animals in their natural habitats, to abstracts of color and pattern, it’s extremely gratifying to witness the beauty our earth offers.

Lucky for me, in 2016 I began working for one of the greatest photographers in the business...Legendary nature and wildlife photographer Thomas D. Mangelsen.   His Images of Nature galleries showcase some of the most iconic images ever taken in our world's last great wild places.  His passion for documenting and caring for our natural world has made me even more conscious of our environment and the need to preserve what we still have.

Whether it's climbing a rocky slope, trudging through knee-deep snow or wading through icy water, there's always an interesting perspective to be photographed. And with practice, an abundance of patience and sometimes a little bit of luck, you may be rewarded with the image of a lifetime.
